this rod was used to create the magnet

i left a 1/16 gap from one end of the rod,and taped it with electrical tape before i started to roll the wire, i left a 3 inch over hang on the wire so i could hook up the battery. the tighter the wire was rolled the better the magnet would be. when i was about to finish i left another 3 inches of free wire for the battery to be connected.

my magnet could pick up a 6 inch bolt, a washer, and paper clips it was not very good but better than some, some would pick up the bolt and more washers

10 feet of solid wire were cut
